Retraction!

Thanks to everyone who responded (online and off) to my post last night.  Clearly, my writing funk is hitting me harder than I thought it would.  I didn't mean to worry all of you!  In part just articulating those feelings helped me work through this problem, and the rest of your e-hugs and encouragement (and verbal spankings) finished the job.

In the sunny light of day, I don't actually think I could quit writing.  At least, not for long.  As I already itch to write and feel listless and lazy that I don't have anything to work on, quitting probably wouldn't last long.  (And no worries, Chris!  I definitely won't deprive you of my Dear Student posts!  Have one percolating as I type this!)

I'm going to mull through the advice you've all given me.  I'm going to find something to write that makes me happy, makes me laugh, or is just completely stupid and pointless, and I'm going to try to get back in the habit of writing every day (but I'm going to start that... tomorrow!  Ha!) even if nothing comes of it.  Maybe I'll try fanfic, or NaNoWriMo, just because I can, and not worry about whether or not it sucks.

Or, you could all dare me.  That would work too!  ;)

Anyway, thanks all of you!  Things look a little better.  Sometimes it's nice to know that I'm not alone in feeling this way, and that it does get better.

Denvention!!

Between falling down the (concrete, painful) stairs at work, dealing with the IRS (always a treat), finishing up the last week of summer school (and saying good-bye to 44 of the most awesome, responsible, hard-working and just generally cool students EVAH), reading all four books in the Twilight series and interviewing for a full-time teaching job, I have totally fallen out of the internet loop.  I am, in fact, having a hard time finding the loop.

So, to all of my f-list friends, I suck.  I'm not going to be able to catch up on the last however-many weeks of posts that I've missed.  On the bright side, I'm looking forward to seeing many of you this week at Denvention!  Woohoo!  I'll be arriving tomorrow, and I'm totally jazzed.

But you might want to maintain a safe distance from my vortex of bad luck.  I don't think it's contagious, but one can never be sure.  Just sayin'.

Birthdays

Thanks to everyone for all of the birthday wishes!  This has been an awesome birthday weekend thanks to all of my friends and my family.  And just when I thought the birthday fun was at an end, I opened my email to find even more e-cards and gift certificates, and more wishes from my lj and VP friends.  I am blessed to have so many wonderful peeps in my life!  Thanks!

Bad Day for Bunnies

When one person on my f-list posts about her dog eating a bunny, it's a gruesome reminder of the circle of life. But when two people on my f-list, both graduates of VPXI, post about their dogs eating bunnies in the same day, it must be a conspiracy.

Conspiracy or coincidence?  You decide.  The defense rests, ladies and gentlemen.

Progress Makes My Day

First of all, thanks to all of you for your support.  I was in a bit of a funk (for a variety of reasons), but between your comments and getting excited about my story today, I feel much better.  :)

Progress time!  604 words today, and the muse has resumed steering the wheel of this crazy ride I'm calling a story. Apparently I didn't have to worry about too much standing around and chatting after all. As it turns out, my characters showed up for what they thought was a meeting, and got locked in a darkened warehouse instead. Who knew? I know I didn't see that coming. This new twist was as much a surprise to me as to my characters. Once again, I don't know what the hell happens next in my own story; however, I am content that Things Will Happen to increase the tension and action, so I am relieved. And, I've already started brewing some ideas for tomorrow's session, which is excellent.

And it's Zokutou Day!  Hooray!

Celebration time!  This week, I have written 4,157 words and passed the 50% complete mark!  Woohoo!

In addition, in the past month, I've doubled the size of my story (even BEFORE I took out the prologue)!  So, essentially, since I returned from VP on October 6th, I've actually written more than I wrote in the preceding year and a half.  I credit the Viable Paradise experience for giving me the motivation that I sorely needed to get this story going.  It's not NaNoWriMo progress (I'm not quite there yet-- those of you who can do NaNo ROCK!) but this is a big personal victory for me.  Very exciting!

I'm off to go celebrate by making and eating massive piles of cookies.
